It was exactly 337 days after its first show (or 11 months and two days after his first concert, if you want to put it that way) when young British singer and songwriter Jake Bugg debuted in Ibiza Rocks as Ben Howard‘s support act. Bear in mind that, when he introduced Brit award winner in Ibiza Rocks, his first album was not even out. However, his talent had already mesmerised Noel Gallagher, Stone Roses or The Killers, who all picked him as his opening act. This time, he was the main act at the opening concert of Ibiza Rocks‘ 8th season.

But his is not an overnight success. He started performing for an audience in the roughest possible way, that is, in front of his High-School classmates. (Tough enough!). Later on, he started playing all around Nottingham, his hometown. What happened between that and his debut in Glastonbury is the perfect mix of talent and luck. You know, being at the right place at the right time.

He signed with Mercury Records and he recorded some singles like Lightning Bolt, Two Fingers, Trouble Town or Taste It. Bugg’s eponymous debut album was released on 15 October 2012. Talking about Bugg and his debut Clash hailed the «precocious talent fusing retro folk with blistering contemporary rock riffs».On 21 October 2012 the song Two Fingers charted at 28 in the UK while his self-titled album reached number one in the UK charts.

He states that his formative musical moment was hearing Don McLean’s Vincent on an episode of The Simpsons. His uncle Mark got him a guitar, taught him a few chords and that was the beginning of romance.

If music was ever created. If talent was ever precocious, it was because Jake was supposed to exist.

I remember his show last year. I got to Ibiza Rocks just in time to see him perform Lightning Bolt. I must confess it was the only song by him I knew back then. Something clicked. I knew I would be seeing a lot of him, most probably as a headliner, maybe somewhere else, probably at many other festivals but he would always be «moving forward», as he says constantly.
